National hall of fame for Aust journalists

The Victorian Media Hall of Fame is being extended nationally to recognise journalists from across the country.

Aussie media legends are set to be immortalised with the launch of a national hall of fame.

The Australian Media Hall of Fame, hosted by the Melbourne Press Club, will recognise the greatest figures in journalism at a series of dinners across the country.

The national program is an extension of the Victorian hall, which was started four years ago and has inducted 81 people, including Keith Murdoch and Michelle Grattan.

A panel of media experts will judge the nominations, while from November a series of galleries will showcase the Hall at the State Library of Victoria.

"We see this further initiative as playing an important part in demonstrating the abiding value of great journalism to the vitality of our democracy," Melbourne Press Club chief executive Mark Baker said in a statement.
