National protections for NDIS users

Nationally consistent safeguards are set to be rolled out for users of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Staff screenings and a national complaints system are among new protections to be offered to users of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Providers and workers will also be subject to a code of conduct, with an oversight body to monitor their compliance with registration requirements including standards for disability and mental health services.

The bolstered quality controls and safeguards were released on Friday by the COAG disability reform council, in a bid to establish nationally consistent responsibilities for providers and their staff.
