Prime Minister Tony Abbott has told Parliament that allegations about mistreatment and abuse in the Nauru offshore process facility are "appalling and reprehensible" and those implicated will be punished.

The Moss report released last week detailed allegations of rape and child abuse at the Nauru Centre.

The Greens are calling for a full inquiry and say the Government should apologise to the group Save the Children for alleging they were inciting protests and for removing their representatives from duty in Nauru.

The Government has promised improvements on Nauru and accepted all the recommendations of the Moss report.

"Let me be absolutely clear at the outset. It is appalling and reprehensible that misconduct of a grievous type seems to have taken place at this centre," said Abbott.

"It is absolutely appalling that this has happened. And we are working with the government of Nauru, which runs the centre, to try to ensure that this kind of thing is appropriately dealt with, that it's punished, and that it never happens again".
