Nauru MP has passport cancelled

A Nauru MP has been forced to disembark a plane bound for New Zealand and had his passport cancelled without explanation.

Nauruan authorities have forced an opposition MP to disembark a plane bound for New Zealand and cancelled his passport.

Roland Kun boarded a flight bound for New Zealand on Wednesday when Nauru officials delayed the departure and asked him to disembark.

Mr Kun, one of five opposition MPs suspended from parliament last year, said his passport was cancelled without explanation.

"My passport is valid until October 2016," he told AAP.

"I have not been charged with anything."

Mr Kun is now free and driving around the island.

He said the government previously disallowed his wife and children from travelling to Nauru from New Zealand.

"I do not know what they are proposing to do," he said.

"Being unable to travel for no good reason is concerning."

On Tuesday opposition MP Mathew Batsiua was arrested at a protest outside parliament and charged with disrupting the legislature.

Mr Kun said he was not involved in the protest, which authorities have called a riot after windows were smashed at Parliament House.

The protesters were reportedly demanding President Baron Waqa provide an explanation over recent corruption allegations against him and members of his government.

AAP understands Mr Batsiua is expected in court on Wednesday.

Earlier, former president Sprent Dabwido - another suspended MP - said Mr Batsiua was arrested after being told President Waqa wanted to meet with him.
