Nauru talks still haven't happened

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully still hasn't been able to meet with Nauru's Justice Minister to discuss the suspension of NZ aid.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully still hasn't been able to meet with Nauru's justice minister to discuss the suspension of New Zealand aid.

Mr McCully was meant to meet with David Adeang on Thursday, on the sidelines of the Pacific Islands Forum in Port Moresby, but that didn't happen.

"I've been sending messages to the justice minister saying I'm here, I'm keen to meet but we haven't managed to lock a time in yet," Mr McCully told reporters.

"I'm sure he's been very busy, but I've been keeping space free and I'll continue to do so."

New Zealand announced last week that it was suspending the $NZ1.2 million ($A1.07 million) of aid it provides to keep Nauru's justice sector going.

Mr Adeang has previously accused New Zealand of trying to undermine his country's sovereignty.

New Zealand's other aid to Nauru, which amounts to about $NZ1m, is not under threat.
