The specifications of Australia's new Arafura Class offshore patrol vessels.

AUSTRALIA'S NEW ARAFURA CLASS OFFSHORE PATROL VESSELS:

* 80 metres long with a beam of 13 metres and a displacement of 1640 tonnes.

* Powered by two diesel engines with a top speed of more than 20 knots and a range of 4000 nautical miles.

* Weapons include a 40mm gun and two 50-calibre machine guns.

* Equipped with two 8.5-metre side-launched boats and one 10.5-metre stern-launched boat.

* A crew of 40 with accommodation and services for up to 60.
