A potential increase in imports and roster sizes has forced the NBL to push their free-agency period back to April 1.
The period would normally begin on March 20, a fortnight after the last game of the grand final series, but the league have opted to push that date back 11 days as they consider the changes.
The NBL is currently in discussion with the Australian Basketballers Association about the changes, while the current contracting system and parts of the collective bargaining agreement are also under review.
Amongst the discussion points are whether the import limit should be lifted from two to three in each squad.
The changes are expected to be announced within coming weeks.
It means players will be able to re-sign with their own club until the end of March, but they cannot sign for any rival franchises.
