NBL to investigate post-match brawl

The NBL has started an investigtion into a brawl between the competition's leading teams Perth and Adelaide at the Perth Arena.

The NBL has launched an investigation into Friday night's brawl in the top-of-the-table clash between Perth and Adelaide.

A bench-clearing fight erupted after fulltime of the match in Perth won 85-61 by the Wildcats.

Players shook hands on fulltime before words were exchanged and they began pushing and shoving with coaching staff from both sides involved.

It's the believed the Wildcats' Greg Hire may have sparked the fight, with the 36ers taking offence at him shooting a three-pointer on the buzzer which is considered bad etiquette in basketball when a team leads by such a big margin.

"All video footage of the incident is being reviewed. The NBL is treating this matter seriously and does not condone incidents such as these," a statement from the NBL released on Saturday said.

In a highly-anticipated battle, the Wildcats turned on the power at both ends from the first jump-ball, while the 36ers never got going.

Two successive long-range bombs put the Wildcats up by nine halfway through the first quarter and with James Ennis (27 points, 11 rebounds) asserting himself with a tip-jam and a stunning alley-oop they raced to a 27-13 quarter-time lead.

Jesse Wagstaff (14 points, 7 rebounds) was pivotal in the centre for the Wildcats, who were still without big man Matt Knight (concussion), but he was just as lethal from outside as he landed the first three-pointer of the second term to keep Perth on a roll.
