Giants star Susan Pettitt has embraced the challenge of an unfamiliar position, as her team strive to rediscover their winning touch for Saturday's Super Netball minor semi-final against in-form Collingwood.

After successive home losses to Firebirds and Lightning, the early-season pacesetting Giants dropped to third.

They will host the the elimination semi in Sydney against a star-studded Magpies outfit, who have won six of their past seven games, with one of those victories coming against the Giants.

Veteran shooter Pettitt, who has accumulated vast finals' experience with former club NSW Swifts, has sometimes found herself pressed into service as a wing attack in the second half of the season, with the Giants trying to replace injured midcourt lynchpin Kim Green.

With Pettitt out of the circle, Giants' coach Julie Fitzgerald has occasionally partnered emerging young shooter Kristina Brice with England sharpshooter Jo Harten.

Pettitt admitted it had been a challenge adjusting to the demands of a position she hadn't played before this year.

"It's been something that I've never done before and only just recently been chucked in there at training, so it's a whole new game for me," Pettitt told AAP.

"It's been quite interesting to try and learn the craft of it.

"As a goal attack, I set up a lot of the play and feed a lot more outside, so I guess it's similar in some ways, but it's definitely a different kind of concept making sure I don't go offside.

"It's all about trying to do what you can for the team out there and, whatever Julie puts me in, I'll make sure I try and give my best."

Collingwood's Diamonds-laden side include two of Pettitt's former Swifts teammates, dominant goalkeeper Sharni Layton and prolific goal shooter Caitlin Thwaites.

"All over the court, they've got a pretty amazing line-up," Pettitt said.

"They've really found their connections in the second half of the season. We've got to try and break those connections.

"Their defence end is the Diamonds' defence end and their combinations are really coming together, so we just need to play smart netball and focus on what we do well and do that well."
