WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE NEW SEARCH FOR WILLIAM TYRRELL:
WHERE IS IT BEING CONDUCTED?
* In bushland around the home of his foster grandmother in Kendall, on NSW's mid-north coast, where he was last seen on September 12, 2014.
HOW BIG IS THE SEARCH AREA?
* Approximately three square kilometres.
HOW LONG WILL THE SEARCH CONTINUE?
* Three to four weeks.
WHO'S INVOLVED?
* About 50 officers from the NSW Police public order and riot squad and state planning unit.
* Consulations with the NSW Coroner.
WHAT IS THE FOCUS?
* To find forensic evidence that shows beyond reasonable doubt William's disappearance was the result of human intervention and not through misadventure, which can be presented to court if needed.
WHY NOW?
* The original search in the 10 days after he vanished covered about 18 square kilometres, but focused on looking for what authorities believed was a lost boy, not forensic evidence.
WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT THIS TIME?
* A smaller area will be searched more intensively, with police properly co-ordinating and documenting the searched areas.
