New Greens senator decided

The votes are in and counted but the Tasmania Greens are remaining tight-lipped about the replacement for Senator Christine Milne in Canberra.

The Greens have selected a new senator to replace retiring former national leader Christine Milne, but the party is keeping wraps on the identity of her successor.

Tasmanian Greens convenor Austra Maddox told AAP the state electoral committee has finished counting the votes of party members and the successful candidate knows the result. An official announcement will be made on Thursday.

Former Tasmanian Greens leader and current state MP Nick McKim has been touted as the frontrunner of the nine candidates who put up their hand for the spot since Senator Milne announced in May she would retire before the next election, due next year.
