New home sales have continued to strengthen thanks to stronger sales of detached houses.
New home sales were up 0.2 per cent in March and 5.8 per cent in the March quarter, the Housing Industry Association said.
That followed an increase of 4.6 per cent in February, which was the highest level in almost three years.
All of the states saw an increase in detached house sales in the first three months of the year, HIA economist Diwa Hopkins said.
The construction of detached houses creates more jobs than multi-units.
In Queensland, detached house sales were up 20.8 per cent in the quarter and in South Australia were up 6.2 per cent.
NSW and Western Australia, the original drivers of the recovery, had maintained healthy sales activity levels, Ms Hopkins said.
"This update shows there may be some potential for further growth in these states," she said.
