New-look Tall Ferns squad unveiled

California-based teenage forward Tessa Boagni has won a Tall Ferns call-up ahead of their Olympic qualification bid.

There are three uncapped players in the New Zealand women's basketball squad to begin preparation for their Olympic qualifying series against Australia.

United States college-based pair Tessa Boagni and Jacinta Beckley have been included for the first time, along with Melbourne-based guard Chevannah Paalvast.

California State University guard Boagni, 19, is the youngest member of the 14-woman squad.

Tall Ferns coach Kennedy Kereama was pleased with the quality available to him ahead of a preparation camp in Auckland.

After that he will trim the squad to 12 to contest a tournament in Taiwan and a three-Test home series against Japan before the home-and-away Oceania series against the Opals in mid-August.

Six players are on US college programs and seven represent Australian clubs.

Only Auckland guard Jordan Hunter is a New Zealand-based member of the squad.
