A survey of new migrants in Melbourne indicates generally positive attitudes towards life in Australia.

The settlement agency AMES has researched over 500 participants of its Adult Migrant Education Program, posing questions about perceptions of life in Australia before and after migration.

Areas covered by the study include personal safety, health care, employment and integration.

The majority of respondents come from China, Afghanistan and Vietnam, and have been in Australia for less than a year.

AMES researcher Lisa Thomson is speaking to Kristina Kukolja.
