The next generation of the Smart minicar will be even shorter in length and will launch in both two or four-door guises, Daimler announced at a cold weather testing session in northeast Sweden.
The ForFour shrinks in length by 10 centimetres to 3.5 metres while around 7cm will be shaved off the ForTwo, which now measures 2.70m. That should make it easier to angle-park it on crowded city streets.
Both models have the engine located at the back and feature rear-wheel drive. The revamped Smarts are also slightly wider than their predecessors.
Reidel said the made-over Smarts use less fuel than before but gave no details. The city cars use a new one-litre, three-cylinder unit developed by co-operation partner Renault whose new Twingo model shares the same technical platform.
