There's been a changing of the guard at Australia's military-led, border security operation designed to stop maritime arrivals of asylum seekers.
Major General Andrew Bottrell has been appointed to replace Lieutenant General Angus Campbell as the Commander for Operation Sovereign Borders.
Lieutenant General Angus Campbell was promoted to Chief of Army last week.
General Campbell was promoted to three-star General upon appointment to the then start-up venture, but at this stage General Bottrell will stay a two-star General.
The Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, says Major General Andrew Bottrell has over 30 years’ experience in the Defence Force and was most recently deployed to Afghanistan for Operation SLIPPER, where he led planning and execution of the drawdown of Australian forces.
The Afghanistan deployment lead to the awarding of Distinguished Service Medal and promotion from the rank of Brigadier.
The Minister, Peter Dutton has thanked General Campbell for his service with Operation Sovereign Borders and congratulated him on his appointment to Chief of Army.
