Tigerair Australia has launched new daily return services between Brisbane and Cairns.
The inaugural flight will touch down at 2:20pm local time on Tuesday.
Mayor of Cairns Bob Manning says the introduction of new flights demonstrates confidence in the Far North Queensland tourism industry.
"We expect this new level of competition to stimulate the domestic travel market and we look forward to showcasing our hospitality to visitors," Councillor Manning said in a statement.
Local member for Cairns and Assistant Minister for Tourism Gavin King said the new flights will give local tourism a great boost.
"This new aviation route from Brisbane to Cairns will help to deliver our goal to double annual overnight visitor expenditure in Queensland from $15 billion to $30 billion by 2020," said Mr King.
The introduction of the service will provide a 30 per cent growth in Tigerair's existing services to Cairns.
Also launching on Tuesday are daily return services between Brisbane and Darwin.
