Australia's newest university will aim to give more people in regional Victoria access higher education.

Federation University Australia has been created by a merger of the University of Ballarat and Monash University's Gippsland campus.

Victoria's Minister for Higher Education, Peter Hall, has told Murray Silby the new institution will transform education for regional students across the state.
