More hope will now be extended to service men and women, with the launch of Australia's first RSL Veterans' Centre - a "one-stop shop" in Sydney's Bondi Junction - to help them deal with obstacles in returning to civilian life.

Veterans will have free access to medical, legal and financial advice, while sessions with a psychologist will also be available.

The Centre’s Norbert Keough is expecting a tsunami of demand.

“We are seeing homelessness, suicide alcohol and drug dependency, abuse and domestic violence among our returning soldiers,” he said.

“This centre is designed to fill gaps in the system – to facilitate service members, veterans and their families getting the help they need.”

The centre will be funded by the RSL and $46 000 for this year from the federal government.
