New website for WA bushfire info

A new Emergency WA website has been created to provide information about bushfires, with two blazes claiming the lives of five people last summer.

A new website has been created to provide information about bushfires in WA ahead of summer.

Two bushfires in WA claimed the lives of five people during the 2015-16 season and WA firefighters responded to more than 3400 bushfires last summer.

The $2.8 million Emergency WA website would deliver faster, clearer and more consistent information during bushfires and other emergencies, Emergency Services Minister Joe Francis said.

The new website at www.emergency.wa.gov.au uses information from the Bureau of Meteorology and Geoscience Australia and replaces the systems of alerts and warnings on various government websites.

"The site will also deliver a live feed of emergency incidents reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, meaning people will find out about a fire as soon as it is reported to triple zero," Mr Francis said.
