Newcrest Sept quarter gold output up 3%

Gold miner Newcrest has improved September quarter production on the back of a rebound in volumes at its mines in NSW and Indonesia.

Newcrest Mining has reported higher gold output in the September quarter, helped by improved production at its Cadia mine in NSW and Gosowong in Indonesia.

Australia's largest gold miner produced 615,498 ounces of gold in the three months to September 30, up three per cent from the June quarter. Copper production rose 12 per cent to 23,723 tonnes.

Newcrest said output was partially affected by a planned total plant shutdown in July at its Lihir mine in Papua New Guinea.
