New Zealand news presenter Hilary Barry has choked up on live television following a segment about departing television host John Campbell.

Broadcaster MediaWorks yesterday announced that Campbell, a well-known television journalist and host of the current affairs show "Campbell Live," would be leaving the network and his show replaced.

After a segment aired about Campbell’s departure on 3 News that evening, Barry choked up in tears and struggled to regain composure.

"I think Mike might have to read this", she said, referring to co-presenter Mike McRoberts.
