NFL great Jerry Rice praises Hayne

One of NFL's greatest players has praised Jarryd Hayne on his spectacular pre-season performances, believing he has what it takes to make the final roster.

NFL legend Jerry Rice has paid Jarryd Hayne a huge compliment, saying he's loving the Australian's pre-season performances for his beloved San Francisco 49ers.

Rice joined the growing band of admirers after former rugby league star Hayne's first two outings for the 49ers in pre-season clashes with Houston and Dallas.

They produced some eye-catching work on kick returns, including a catch over his shoulder and long, weaving runs, and also some impressive efforts at running back.

"I'm loving it. Every time he touches the football there's something spectacular going on," Rice told NFL.com.

Rice who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers, is regarded as the greatest wide receiver in NFL history and was named the greatest player of all time by NFL Films.

But does Rice think Hayne has what it takes to make the 49ers 53-man roster?

"He's doing everything he can to make his mark and also win a spot on this football team," he said.

"I think right now he has a very good chance."
