NFL's Dolphins suspend player indefinitely

Miami Dolphins defender Derrick Shelby has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested for trespassing after a warning and resisting arrest.

Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Derrick Shelby has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL team after being arrested over the weekend at a Florida nightclub.

Shelby was taken into custody by police in Fort Lauderdale for trespassing after a warning and resisting arrest without violence.

Newspaper reports said Shelby had been touching women without their permission and refused to leave the club, forcing police to use a stun gun on him three times.

"We were disappointed to learn about Derrick's arrest," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said on Monday.

"Based on my conversations with Derrick and the information we have thus far, Derrick will be placed on indefinite club suspension.

"When we have completed all of the necessary diligence, we will make a final determination on his discipline."

Shelby, a three-year NFL veteran, has made six tackles and two quarterback sacks for the Dolphins in four games, helping Miami to a 2-2 start in the NFL season.

The Dolphins, who had last week off, play Green Bay at home on Sunday.
