Nine bushwalkers found safe in NSW

A party of bushwalkers has been located after spending the night in blizzard conditions in the NSW Snowy Mountains.

Nine bushwalkers are being led out of the NSW Snowy Mountains after spending the night in blizzard conditions.

The group from Victoria - aged between 18 and 21 - activated an emergency beacon at 1.20am on Wednesday after becoming disorientated during a bushwalk from Charlotte Pass.

A search party responded immediately looking for the group in the Kosciuszko National Park, police said.

Temperatures dropped below zero in the isolated region on Tuesday night with Thredbo ski resort receiving a dusting of snow.

A 21-year-old bushwalker walked into a chalet at Charlotte Pass just before 9am on Wednesday.

The remaining eight were located just before 10am about 12km west of Perisher.

The nine walkers are reported to be in good health but suffering from exposure.

The incident has prompted police to remind bushwalkers of Think Before You Trek procedures:

T - Take adequate supplies of food, water, navigation and first aid equipment

R - Register your planned route and tell friends and family when you expect to return

E - Emergency beacon (PLBs) are available free of charge from NSW Police and NPWS

K - Keep to your planned route and follow the map and walking trails.
