Nine players face 13 NBL panel charges

The NBL game review panel has laid 13 charges from two games with Cairns Michael Carrera facing two matches out if found guilty of making contact with the face.

Cairns' Venezuelan forward Michael Carrera faces a two-match ban after featuring among 13 charges laid against nine players by the NBL game review panel.

The league assessed the incidents from the Taipans-Perth and Illawarra-Brisbane matches.

Carrera was charged with "unreasonable contact with the face" and, due to it being intentional and medium impact, is looking at a two-game suspension although it can be reduced to one with an early guilty plea.

The fourth-quarter incident involving Carrera sparked a melee, for which he was also fined $500 - reduced to $375 with an early guilty plea - along with Cairns' Jarrad Weeks and Nnanna Egwu.

Perth's US import Jean-Pierre Tokoto can accept a $500 fine after being charged with unduly rough play as well as his involvement in the melee.

Hawks import Demitrius Conger has been charged twice for making unreasonable contact with the face - during a rebounding contest and in a third-quarter melee during their fiery win over the Bullets.

With an early guilty plea to the contact charges, he will escape one-match bans with a $1750 fine, plus $375 for his involvement in the brawl.

His Hawks teammates Delvon Johnson and Rotnei Clarke, and Bullets players Adam Gibson and centre Tom Jervis face the same penalty for their involvement.

The players have until 5.00pm on Wednesday to accept the charges or challenge them on Thursday at the tribunal.
