No.1 badge inspring Supercars champ

Ford star Mark Winterbottom says he's inspired, not intimidated, by having the No.1 on his Falcon as the Supercars champion.

Supercars champion Mark Winterbottom still gets a kick from turning up to the track and seeing the No.1 on his Ford Falcon.

The Prodrive Racing Australia star claimed the first race win of his title defence earlier this month in Perth and is chasing more success this weekend at Winton.

Winterbottom says being the hunted is a thrill after spending more than a decade trying to land the Supercars crown.

"To rock up and have No.1 on the car is a real proud moment for me," Winterbottom told AAP.

"I tried for so long to win it, so you definitely don't try and hide behind it. You love it and are really proud of it.

"It's a really nice thing having it, so that's why you want to keep it, you don't want to lose it."

Winterbottom says he can also draw inspiration from the badge on his windscreen.

"It just gives you a little bit of confidence," he said.

"If you're struggling, you just look at the number and you know you and the team can do it."
