Hockeyroos midfield star Casey Eastham has urged selectors to stick with the World Cup silver-medal winning squad to defend their Commonwealth Games gold next month.

Australia's women are two-time defending champions, flying high after impressing at the World Cup in The Hague where they went down 2-0 to world No.1 the Netherlands in Saturday's final.

And Eastham hoped the group that had grown throughout the World Cup would be rewarded.

"I wouldn't imagine it would change all that much - we pick the best team for each tournament," Eastham told AAP.

"I think everyone here did an exceptional job, we made the gold-medal match.

"We know that we'll take a class team over to Scotland."

Australia carried an 18-strong team in The Hague, but that will be trimmed to 16 when the Commonwealth Games team is announced on June 24.

They also have the likes of midfielder Teneal Attard, who's recovered from a leg injury, and rising forward Brooke Peris as possibilities to make the squad.

One of the casualties is likely to be a goalkeeper, but it remains to be seen whether that will be the goalkeeper of the tournament, Rachael Lynch, or her exceptional backup Ashlee Wells.

Regardless, the Hockeyroos will enter as overwhelming favourites - a burden which doesn't faze coach Adam Commens.

"The Commonwealth Games is an important tournament for us.

"Rightly should be favourites for that tournament," he said.

"But I don't underestimate our opponents. In the women's side of the Commonwealth Games I think there's some really high-quality teams."

Commens noted that New Zealand, who drew with Australia in their World Cup round match, South Africa and England would all provide dangerous opposition, while Eastham said Scotland would also be a tricky opponent on home soil.

Commens, possibly drawing inspiration from the Dutch approach at the World Cup, also demanded his side played as if they deserved favouritism - he wants them to dominate, not just beat, their opposition.

"We'll certainly need to have taken a step up from what we've done (in the World Cup)," he said.

"It's not a matter of just trying to maintain - it's about improving and that's something that our group has been really determined to do over the last two years.

"They'll be even more determined to do it at the Commonwealth Games."
