No AFL recall for retiring Eagle Priddis

A week after announcing his AFL retirement, West Coast veteran Matt Priddis has been left out of the Eagles' team to face St Kilda.

West Coast champion Matt Priddis has been overlooked for Sunday's crunch clash with St Kilda as his AFL retirement draws near.

The Brownlow medallist flew to Melbourne on Friday with the Eagles only to be named as an emergency for the Etihad Stadium game.

Forgotten midfielder Chris Masten is the only inclusion for West Coast, replacing key defender Tom Barrass (groin).

Priddis shocked the football world last week when he revealed he would hang up his boots at the end of the year, despite having signed a contract extension less than two months earlier.

The 32-year-old has struggled for form this season, with coach Adam Simpson rotating him between his usual on-ball role and a forward-line position in a bid to inject more youth into the midfield.

Priddis has played down rumours of a rift with Simpson, but the decision to leave him out for such a high-stakes clash suggests he is no longer considered part of their best 22.

Simpson on Friday morning said Priddis had recovered fully from a quad strain which had sidelined him last week.

The Saints have made two changes with Nick Riewoldt and Koby Stevens replacing Jack Lonie and Daniel McKenzie.

Riewoldt, who will also retire at the end of the season, returns after being rested for last week's clash with Port Adelaide.

Both the eighth-placed Eagles and 11th-placed Saints must win to keep their finals hopes alive.

Port Adelaide have thrown a surprise recall to veteran Angus Monfries for Sunday's Showdown against Adelaide.

Monfries will play his first game since round 22 in 2015, having missed all of last season as one of 34 past and present Essendon players to serve a 12-month doping ban.

He and Aidyn Johnson replace Matthew Broadbent (ankle) and Matt White (omitted).

The ladder-leading Crows confirmed the inclusion of big guns Eddie Betts, Jake Lever and Brad Crouch, with veteran swingman Andy Otten among three omissions.

Richmond will welcome back classy midfielder Dion Prestia for Sunday's clash with Hawthorn at the MCG after a week out with knee soreness.

He replaces Shai Bolton, while star forward Jack Riewoldt will miss another week after undergoing eye surgery.

The Hawks have recalled youngster Teia Miles in place of suspended veteran Luke Hodge.
