No agreement on Antarctic marine reserves

An international meeting in Hobart has failed to agree on proposals create the world's biggest marine reserves.

An international meeting in Hobart has failed to agree on proposals create the world's biggest marine reserves.

The proposals were on the table at the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources meeting, which brought together 24 nations and the European Union.

Russia and Ukraine blocked one plan brought by Australia, France and the European Union, and another by the U-S and New Zealand.

Spokeswoman for Pew Charitable Trusts lobby group, Andrea Kavanagh, told Marina Freri she questions the ability of the CCAMLR group to deliver on its conservation commitments.
