A Melbourne teenager who had terror charges against him dropped won't be getting an apology from Victoria Police.

There will be more cases where police act to stop a terrorist attack but find they don't have enough evidence to prosecute alleged offenders, chief commissioner Graham Ashton told 3AW on Wednesday.

He says there won't be any apology if no-one has acted in bad faith.

Harun Causevic, 18, spent 127 days in 23 hour isolation after being charged with terror offences which were dropped in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
