Police allege improvised explosive devices were found at his home when he was arrested on Friday.
The 17-year old appeared for approximately 20 minutes in the children’s court of Victoria, flanked by two uniformed members of Victoria Police.
No application for bail was entered, meaning no further details of the alleged terror plot were publically revealed.
The boy's lawyer did request permission be granted for his parents to visit him in detention. The judge agreed that it would be “unfortunate if his parents were unable to visit him,” adding “ultimately that would be a decision for other authorities.”
The 17-year old was arrested last Friday after raids on a home in Melbourne's north. He was charged with "engaging in an act in preparation for or planning a terrorist act".
Police allege they found three improvised explosives at the boy's home, and say the arrest thwarted "an imminent threat to the community".
A lawyer appearing for a media outlet requested the accused 17-year old's name be released to the public, describing the case as being a matter "of the highest public interest" - but that request was denied.
The boy will reappear on May 26th.
