No division on capital gains tax: Cormann

Finance Minister Mathias Corman insists there is no division inside the Turnbull government on changing the discount concessions on capital gains tax.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has dismissed out of hand a report the coalition is split over whether to cut capital gains tax concessions for property investors.

"We have no plans and no intentions to reduce capital gains discounts," he told Sky News as he noted the prime minister and treasurer had said the same thing.

Last year, Mr Morrison flagged changes to curb the "excesses" of negative gearing but lost the internal argument to more conservative colleagues including Senator Cormann, the Australian Financial Review said on Friday.

Asked whether differences of opinion were in play, Senator Cormann said: "No."

"This is just typical pre-budget speculation. People put up kites, go on fishing expeditions," he said.
