No excuses from Hansen after loss to Lions

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has refused to blame the referees after the British and Irish Lions levelled the three-Test series in Wellington.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen won't get caught up in a tit-for-tat stoush over foul play despite key rulings going the British and Irish Lions' way in the second Test.

Some commentators believes All Blacks back Sonny Bill Williams' shoulder charge wasn't the only offence which warranted a red card in Wellington on Saturday.

Lions prop Mako Vunipola was involved with two unsavoury hits on All Blacks first five-eighth Beauden Barrett in rapid succession after the break.

The second was the worst, resulting in a yellow card after a forearm to the head of a prone Barret.

"Did Mako Vunipola intend to take Beauden Barrett's head off? I don't think so - that's what happens," a conciliatory Hansen said.

Hansen was also relaxed about the incident which led to Lions back Owen Farrell slotting a winning penalty in the dying stages.

All Blacks reserve prop Charlie Faumuina was pinged for a dangerous tackle on Kyle Sincker, who had jumped in the air to collect a pass.

Faumuina's copybook low tackle was deemed dangerous by referee Jerome Garces as Sinckler fell from a height.

Hansen is unsure what Faumuina was supposed to do but won't make a big deal of the incident.

"Charlies's a big boy of about 130kg, so he hasn't got the ability to stop midway through," Hansen said.

"It's tough but again, you've just got to live with it."
