No extra pay for Ruddock for envoy role

While he's still an MP, Philip Ruddock won't receive any extra pay for being the federal government's special envoy on human rights.

Philip Ruddock won't receive any extra pay for being Australia's special envoy on human rights while he remains in parliament.

The veteran Liberal MP will have his travel costs covered for any trips he undertakes at the same rates as senior public servants.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade secretary Peter Varghese told a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday that it would be unconstitutional for Mr Ruddock to be paid for his new gig while he continued to be a MP.
