No Gold Coast NRL hoodoo for Sharks

Form has rarely mattered when the Gold Coast face Cronulla in the NRL but the Sharks aren't fussed by only winning two of their past seven against the Titans.

They've won just two of their past seven NRL games against Gold Coast but Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan insists the Titans don't have the wood over his Sharks.

The Gold Coast beat the Sharks twice last year and also put an end to their run of 15 successive victories late in 2016, when they drew 18-18 on the Gold Coast.

The recent runs come despite Cronulla being a clearly more dominant overall side in recent years, having made the finals the past three years compared to the Titans' one appearance in 2016.

Saturday's clash at Cbus Super Stadium shapes as another chance for an upset, given the Titans have lost their past two and Cronulla appeared to find form in last week's victory over Penrith.

But Flanagan won't buy into the suggestion his team has some kind of issue overcoming the Titans.

"It's going to be a real competitive football game but do I think they've got anything over us? Definitely not," Flanagan said.

"In 2016 we were 15 in a row and it was always going to come.

"I was probably looking for us to lose a game before the finals in that year, which we did, we lost two or three in a row.

"In the last game here at Shark Park they dived on a loose ball and picked it up.

"It was a hot potato type thing and they scored in the last minute or two."

Regardless, he conceded his team may need to take a dour approach into Saturday's clash if they are to overturn recent history.

They could be made a little more difficult if co-captain and NSW State of Origin backrower Wade Graham fails to beat hamstring tightness for the clash; given he still remains in doubt.

"It hasn't been easy when we've travelled up there previously," Flanagan said.

"They're really going to fight for everything and are probably a bit down in the dumps, they've got a lot of spirit there.

"We've got to go up there and somehow find a win. Go back to the old ways maybe; scrap it out."

Meanwhile, the form is just as much of a mystery to Titans captain Ryan James, as his side return to their home ground for the first time since round one due to the Commonwealth Games.

"There just seems to be those teams where you decide to play good against," hesaid.
