Cabinet minister Christopher Pyne has denied he offered former political staffer James Ashby inducements to bring down ex-Speaker Peter Slipper.

Mr Pyne said he did not want to get "bogged down" in old news about a saga more than three years old.

"I've been up hill and down dale and upside down over these issues with the media," he told ABC TV on Tuesday.
