No internal problems at GWS: Coniglio

Greater Western Sydney AFL vice-captain Stephen Coniglio insists the Giants have no internal problems after an on-field clash between two players last Friday.

Greater Western Sydney vice-captain Stephen Coniglio has dismissed suggestions of dissension within his AFL club after an incident involving co-captain Phil Davis and ruckman Rory Lobb.

Davis gave Lobb a strong shove in last Friday's game against St Kilda and the bigger man was clearly unhappy with the key defender's actions.

"I reckon it might just have been the Friday night lights and a few extra cameras," Coniglio told reporters on Wednesday.

"Internally we obviously have high expectations of each other.

"I think it might have been highlighted extra because we lost as well, but a lot of those chats we have on a week-to- week basis.

"At that time I don't know the exact conversation they were having.

"From my perspective and a leadership perspective, as long as it's benefiting the player and the conversations that are being had are trying to better their own individual and team performance, then I've got no problems with that."

Speaking on Fox Footy's AFL 360 later on Wednesday, Coniglio conceded the incident wouldn't have looked good to people outside the club.

"These little spot fires, if that's what you call it, they do look very bad," Coniglio said.

"But as long as they are for the betterment of the team, and that conversation on reflection was, then I have no problems with that.

"We have got some colourful characters at the Giants, Heath Shaw and Phil Davis down back in particular, where if they are going to give you feedback its probably valid.

"In that particular situation, we spoke about it with both parties.

"In terms of arguments within our group we very much sort of feel we that we're on top of it.

"If it is being pointed out in the media, it's definitely not an internal problem in our group."

Coniglio said Davis and Lobb had a great relationship and had talked about the incident after the weekend.

"Those two had a very good chat about it first thing on Monday, they were fine with it straight after," Coniglio said.

"I think with a lot of our performances they haven't been at that high end level and we expect a lot of each other.

"No doubt Phil and Rory expect a lot of each other and they were probably just highlighting that."
