Iraq's ambassador to Australia says he's not aware of any issues preventing Australian military aircraft from taking part in bombings as early as this weekend.
RAAF surveillance and refuelling aircraft have already flown non-combat missions over Iraq.
But Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Australia was awaiting approvals for Super Hornets to join US-led coalition forces in combat operations.
"I am not aware of any issues or major obstacles," ambassador Mouayed Saleh told ABC television on Thursday.
Asked if combat missions were possible this weekend, he said: "As soon as I guess all the paperwork gets cleared from Iraq, definitely they would be able to start to join the coalition."
