Warren Truss says no one has approached him to step aside as Nationals leader to make way for Barnaby Joyce.

Mr Truss was responding to the party's federal president Larry Anthony who told The Australian on Friday there was normally a natural transition from deputy leader to leader.

"I have received many assurances of (my colleague's) wish to support me into the future (and) I'm grateful for that," the deputy prime minister told ABC radio.
