No push for Foran NRL retirement: Bulldogs

Canterbury have shot down reports they'e looking to force decorated playmaker Kieran Foran into medical retirement.

CEO Andrew Hill on Thursday night denied the Bulldogs wanted to move the premiership-winning halfback on in a bid to make salary cap space.

Hill said there was no substance to claims the injury-plagued New Zealand international could be forced to retire on medical grounds.

"We've had no conversation with Kieran, we've had no conversations internally, we certainly haven't had a conversation with the NRL about it," Hill told AAP.

Reports earlier on Thursday had the club seeking to have Foran retire to ease the salary cap squeeze that's cast a dark shadow over their 2019 season.

Foran has been hampered by shoulder, hamstring and back problems for several years.

He has failed to live up to expectation since signing a big-money three-year deal as the Dogs' marquee recruit.

Foran will miss Saturday's clash with the Gold Coast at spiritual home Belmore Sportsground but the club hopes to have him back against Newcastle following the representative weekend bye.

"He's currently out, he's got his toe and his wrist, we're hoping he'll be back for our next game," Hill said.

"I don't know where it's come from."

The Bulldogs are facing big salary cap problems next year, a result of heavily back-ended deals arranged by ex-coach Des Hasler and the former administration.

Their woes will see Josh and Brett Morris depart at the end of the year, while Moses Mbye has already signed a four-year deal with Wests Tigers starting in 2019.

However it's understood Saturday's clash with the Titans may be Mbye's last in blue and white, with the Tigers keen to get him across before the June 30 transfer deadline.

It could also be prop Aaron Woods' final appearance, with Cronulla pushing to recruit him mid-season but there are still negotiations to be had.
