No surfing at Bells on Wednesday

A second straight lay day has been called at the World Surf League event at Bells Beach.

A lay day has been called at the Rip Curl Pro surfing competition at Bells Beach on Wednesday.

With the third rounds already completed in both the men's and women's events, organisers elected to wait for a second straight day, with conditions expected to pick up in time for the weekend.

"It is still looking windy out there and it is not looking that great," said World Surf League official Jessi Miley-Dyer.

World championship leader Matt Wilkinson and fellow Australian Mick Fanning are well-placed in the men's event after a host of big names were knocked out in the third round.

Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Adriano de Souza, 11-time world champ Kelly Slater and Australian Joel Parkinson all crashed out of the competition.

All eyes will be on heat three of the women's event when action resumes with the clash between championship leader Tyler Wright and fellow Australian Nikki Van Dijk.
