A senior federal government minister has dismissed advice from a leading businessman to call a double-dissolution election.

Roger Corbett, a member of the Reserve Bank board and Liberal Party member, believes a hostile Senate has made governing almost impossible.

Social Services Minister Scott Morrison told reporters in Sydney on Thursday that Mr Corbett was entitled to his view but the government had work to do as it was only midway through its term.
