Noongar settlement plan hailed

The South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council in WA has welcomed a proposed bill to recognise Noongar ownership, history and culture.

It was a day that some Noongar people had died waiting for - recognition that they are the traditional owners of the south west of Western Australia.

A bill to recognise their ownership, history and culture was introduced to the state's parliament in Perth yesterday, leaving many elders in tears.

Ryan Emery spoke to Glen Kelly, the head of the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council about the unprecedented bill and a wider compensation package.
