For more than 25 years, Oh Kil Nam lived with the guilt of knowing his wife and his two daughters were held against their will at a concentration camp for a "foolish" decision he had made.

In 1985, Oh voluntarily moved to the North with his family on the promise of a good job and free medical treatment for his wife's hepatitis.

It was only when he arrived in North Korea that he realised he had been tricked. A year later, Oh managed to escape but his defection was catastrophic. His family was sent to the notorious Yodok concentration camp where the North Korean government imprisons its enemies.

Oh told his story to CNN's Paula Hancocks.
