Northcliffe residents have been given the go ahead to return home after a huge bushfire came perilously close to the town in Western Australia's south.
About 30 residents had evacuated to the timber town of Pemberton to the north, after a lightning-sparked bushfire burnt to within 2km of the town this week.
They were told at a community meeting at midday on Saturday they could return home and have started making their way back, although residents who have left Windy Harbour cannot yet return.
Two homes and five sheds have been confirmed destroyed.
The Rabbit family said they lost most of their sentimental possessions and heirlooms when their shed went up in smoke.
Overnight, the alert level for the bushfire was downgraded to a watch an act after being in the most severe emergency category.
A separate bushfire burning near the community of Lower Hotham in the state's south has also been downgraded to a watch and act.
Weather conditions favoured both blazes, but temperatures are heating up, so there is still a risk to lives and homes.
At least one house and two sheds were destroyed in the Lower Hotham fire.
