Northern Star sells record amount of gold

Northern Star managing director Bill Beament says the gold miner is extremely well positioned in every respect.

Goldminer Northern Star Resources sold a record amount of gold in the June quarter, putting it well within its sales guidance for the full year.

Western Australia-based Northern Star is the second biggest gold producer listed on the Australian share market.

The company owns and operates the Paulsens, Plutonic, Kanowna Belle, Kundana and Jundee gold mines.

Northern Star sold a record 152,446 ounces of gold in the June quarter, and 580,784 ounces for the 2015 full financial year.

The company had expected to sell between 550,000 and 600,000 ounces for the full year.

The total cost of producing the gold over the full year was $AUD1,065 per ounce, at the lower end of the company's guidance range of $1,050 to $1,100.

The average price received for the gold over the full year was $AUD1,453 per ounce.

Northern Star said on Monday that record production and tight control over costs had resulted in record cash flow for the year.

The company has also repaid its bank debt, with the remaining $20 million repaid in April.

Northern Star also said that a $50 million exploration campaign over fiscal 2015 had delivered outstanding results, including discoveries and substantial extensions of new deposits.

Northern Star managing director Bill Beament said Northern Star was extremely well positioned in every respect.

"Our operational results continued to generate outstanding financial and shareholder returns," Mr Beament said in a statement.

Shares in Northern Star closed 15 cents, or 7.43 per cent, higher at $2.17.
