North's spirit surviving AFL pain: Harvey

North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey says the AFL club's spirit hasn't been broken by their losses.

North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey says he's happy for others to declare the Kangaroos' "shinboner spirit" dead but those within the AFL club know it's very much alive.

Harvey admitted the Kangaroos were hurting after they suffered their fifth loss by four points or less on Friday night, a 16.13 (109) to 16.12 (108) defeat to Carlton.

"It's amazing - it really is. I've never had a season like this before," Harvey told the Seven Network's AFL Game Day on Sunday.

"You look back and think if we had have won four of those five close games, we'd actually be sitting third or fourth on the ladder.

"And that hurts you a little bit - not a little bit, quite a lot."

But he said while North's mental resilience had been questioned, along with the fighting spirit the club is famous for, they were determined to keep bouncing back.

"That's good for other people to think that's gone because, within the football club, we know what we're about and we'll continue to go there," Harvey said.

"We've just got to reinforce to our young guys that we're on the right track.

"Clearly we are. We've taken it up to Geelong, Hawthorn - we've beaten some pretty good teams as well.

"So we are on the right track. We've just got to reinforce that to the young guys.

"I know that they believe in it so, next year or even with six games to go, we're still going to make an impact."
