Not enough time to fix SCG for T20: Ayres

NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres has explained why Sydney was overlooked to host one or both of the Twenty20 world cricket finals.

NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres has admitted there was a desire to increase the capacity at the SCG to bid for the World Twenty20 finals, but there was just not enough time.

Cricket Australia on Monday announced Melbourne will host both the men's and women's T20 finals in 2020, with the smaller SCG granted three of the four semi-finals.

"We wouldn't have been able to do any work on the SCG before this tournament anyhow, so 2020, two years away, not enough time to do a full construction," Ayres told AAP on Tuesday.
