NRL chief executive Dave Smith has been suspended from driving for the past three months.

Smith, who is responsible for overseeing sanctions handed out to rugby league's errant stars, lost his driver's license due to an accumulation of traffic infringements, according to the Seven Network.

Under NSW law any driver who totals more than 13 demerit points over a three-year period, for offences such as speeding, is disqualified from driving for three months.

Smith is free to resume driving next week.
